Thinking about how plants live at their own pace

The heat is starting to ease in September.

In August, there were days when it was extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees.

Under such conditions, almost no flowers bloomed on the sweet pepper and paprika seedlings.

I thought they would just dry up soon.

However, in September, flowers began to bloom.

I think there are several reasons why the flowers didn’t bloom.

Temperature is one of the factors that influences flowering.

Hormones that promote flowering may not be expressed due to high temperatures.

This time, I’ll leave the chemical issue aside and think about it as a way of life.

Plants cannot move.

Even if they want water, they can’t go to a water source to get their hydration.

They will be entrusting their fate to the rain that will fall someday.

Even when the sun is shining, they can’t hide under the eaves.

Just endure.

Plants that live within such constraints.

They must be thinking about maximizing their own performance.

・Is the current environment suitable for leaving descendants?

・How can they overcome this environment?

After thinking about these things, they probably chose an environment that are suitable for their growth because they are unable to move.

People act according to a calendar, but plants do not have a calendar.

Summer vegetables don’t think they will bloom and bear fruit in August.

It depends on external environment.

Being unable to change their environment, they are probably waiting patiently at their own pace until conditions suitable for growth are coming.

Looking at the seedlings, I think that waiting for the right timing is one strategy for living under constraints that are something like nature that cannot be controlled.
