Filing of tax returns for 2025 has already begun [If you want to change the system, do it while it’s still hot]
There are only a few days left until March 17th, the deadline for filing your tax return for 2024.
・For those who have been regularly tracking their profits and losses since last year
・For those who have only started tallying up their profits and losses this year
・For those who have only started tallying up their profits and losses since March
・For those who have not started yet
The progress varies depending on the situation.
“I have already filed my tax return, but it is a pain to have to prepare it every year.”
If you are one of those people, now is your chance to change the system while the time is still fresh in your mind.
Preparation for your tax return for 2025 has already begun.
Improve on the points you regret about this year’s tax return and make next year’s tax return easier.
I will briefly introduce some of the ways in which you can make your tax return more efficient from my experience.
Divide materials by month
If you store a year’s worth of documents all in one place, it will be inefficient when it comes to filing your tax return.
I recommend separating documents by month.
It’s now March, so you can separate your documents by month from January to March.
Buy special files that can be separated by month.
Organizing your documents in an easy-to-understand manner will reduce the time you spend looking for them later.
If your documents are data, it’s a good idea to organize them in folders.
Regularly record deposits and withdrawals in your bankbook
・I received a transfer, but I don’t know where it came from.
・I transferred money, but I don’t know the details of the payment.
To prepare for situations like these,
if the transfer and deposit details are not listed in your bankbook, make regular notes of them while they are still fresh in your memory.
Especially if you pay in bulk, you will not be able to remember the details.
It will also take time to look for the documents later.
It is more efficient to make notes of transfer and deposit details as soon as possible.
Make it a habit
Make time to prepare your tax return, even if it’s just 15 minutes a day, 15 minutes a week, or 15 minutes a month.
It’s fine even if it’s just organizing your documents.
The earlier you set aside time to prepare your tax return, the lower the hurdle to making it a habit.
(Around September, you tend to think, “It’s too much of a hassle, so I’ll just get it all together and prepare again next year.”)
If you start now in March, you’ll only have to organize documents for January-February and March, so the volume is relatively small.
Once you get into the habit, just keep doing it, just like brushing your teeth.
Conclusion
To change your old habits, you will have to consciously put in the effort to make the change at first.
However, once you have changed your habits, the burden will decrease and it will become easier.
As long as you are running a business, you cannot avoid filing tax returns.
We recommend that you start preparing as early as possible.
