Learn how to build a house from DIY videos of vacant houses

Recently, I've become interested in building houses, and been watching videos on DIY projects for vacant houses.

To build a house from scratch, we have to start with a design.

And when it comes to assembling it, it's impossible to do it alone.

However, repairing and replacing damaged parts of an existing house is an easier task.
(Though it still requires experience.)

With the population expected to decline in the future, the number of vacant houses will continue to increase.

Leaving homes that are still habitable with some repairs vacant is an ineffective use of resources.

Due to Japan's high humidity, not many houses last long,

But if they can be lived in for decades with repairs, the resource can be preserved.

First, starting from understanding how houses are built.

  • Clearing away leftover clutter
  • Demolishing walls to rearrange the floor plan
  • Installing water distribution channels
(Consider the slope to allow for proper drainage.)
  • Installing a kitchen, exhaust fan, and bath heater
  • Installing a toilet and septic tank
  • Adding balcony sashes
  • Adjusting the slope of rooms
  • Laying insulation on the floor
  • Installing drywall on the walls
  • Installing wallpaper and floor mats
  • Fixing leaks with caulking
  • Cleaning the exterior with a pressure washer
  • Painting the exterior (with spray paint or roller)

Materials and equipment can be purchased from hardware stores and home improvement contractors.
(Apparently, rentals are also available.)

It seems like a lot of work, but it's impressive to watch the house gradually become cleaner.
